Reflexology and Children

I am a member of the National Register of Reflexologists Ireland (NRRI) and a qualified primary school teacher. I have 16 years of experience working with children in a mainstream class setting and as a Special Education Teacher.

For the child with additional needs the world can be a confusing place and behaviours to adapt to this world can affect not only the child but also the whole family.

When working with children I believe the most important thing is to create a calm and safe space. The core function of reflexology is to calm the mind and bringing about balance to the whole body.

Whether the child is coming with a physical, developmental, emotional or sensory impairment/need the aim is always to make the client feel calm and at ease, in control of their environment. Also, a sense of humour can go a long way!

I love working with children and it is wonderful to witness their response to the treatment. Parents are amazed to see how their child relaxes and sometimes even fall asleep in this deep state of relaxation! Reflexology promotes the secretion of endorphins (the happy hormones) which can reduce pain and produce a feeling of well-being.

Children who receive regular reflexology sessions can feel more listened to and respected which can help parents to better understand the child’s needs.

Reflexology can also:

  • decrease anxiety
  • improve sleep
  • alleviate constipation
  • reduce meltdowns

Please feel free to call me to discuss this further or to make an initial appointment.  I am very excited about having the opportunity to supporting your children.
